Abstract
This study examines the challenges of implementing TOD development in response to urban and transportation problems in Thessaloniki, Greece. This research attempts to highlight current discussions around the transferability and adaptability of the TOD model, concentrating on implementation issues that take into account the unique nature of Thessaloniki as a Greek city. The consideration of this research, given the public transportation system of Thessaloniki city which lags behind other European cities with comparable size and metropolitan characteristics, is that it is mostly based on the bus network. Thus, resulting in the expansion of metropolitan areas and urban growth completely dependent on the use of private vehicles for daily transportation.
